hi there, I love the app and really like the concept of slide cover – however both slidecover and live tiles don’t seem to update very frequently – how is logic working on these. Ideally I’d like to have slide cover running all day while my SurfaceRT is plugged in next to my main laptop, and this could be my main news source – anyway we can force it to grab the latest say x articles from each RSS feed?
I would like to ask when you can fix that you have your titles over-run the images at the top of articles, in the article view? These are the set-in-half-transparent-white title overlays.
The results isn’t good to look at, but importantly also means that you can’t read text or see details properly in the article’s own illustration.
Suggested fix — lower the font size of your overlay titles, and require that the overlay boxes don’t obscure the illustration image, in article view. They feel too large for form also at present.
Best case, for someday: let us set the title font size via Settings, keeping the don’t-obscure-image rule..
Been trying to use Bento for a few weeks now because I found it’s the most attractive newsreader and does what I want it to do. Unfortunately it doesn’t even really load anymore. When I start it I get a full black screen with the Windows (or News Bento) icon and the program never engages. Not really a useful tool if it only starts up sometimes. A few other problems, too. Unfortunately, it’s the closest thing to Microsoft’s Bing Reader that actually allows me to choose what I want to see.
We just released a new version of News Bento (ver 2.0.0.4), which fixes several of the crashing issues reported recently. Please upgrade News Bento later today when the update becomes available in the store.
Useless. I tried to add WIRED magazine RSS feed, but it kept saying that it’s not a valid RSS URL. The address was copied from WIRED website and online RSS readers, such as Netvibes, don’t seem to have problems with it. So, for being anything but a newsreader Bento scores 0 points.
I have a bug report about News Bento. Off late I’ve been facing a peculiar issue in which News Bento does not update the article contents when I switch to the next Article. That is, say I was reading Article “XYZ” from a feed, and I move to Article “ABC” through the Next Article button, the Title Changes, but the content does not. So, all I can do with News Bento currently, is read the Titles of the various posts but not their content. I get read the content of only the 1st post in every feed.
There is an issue with the Windows 8 UI control that we are using. It sometimes throws unexpected exceptions when updating the content, which makes us unable to update the article. We have some workaround to reduce the chance, but have not seen it happens that frequent though.
We are currently working on an exciting new design that could potentially stay away with this OS issue. Please stay tuned.
Yes, I get this problem too. Look forward to the update, I hope you don’t change the design too much as it is excellent. It would be nice to have the ability to add a twitter feed too.

I have 2 other issues: (1) How to delete feeds. (2) I can only enter two feeds before things go haywire. When I enter the third feed, it does not appear, but the URL for it becomes the URL for the second feed. Each time I enter the description and then the right url. It only works for the first 2. After that it will not correctly accept a third feed. What do I need to do

Hi,
First, very good work! But I have one small problem – I want to use rss feed with address like http://www.some-website.net/rss.xml, but the validation says: “It’s not a valid RSS feed”. What I have to do to make it working? Thanks.
News Bento works with most of the publicly available RSS sources. If possible, could you send us the RSS address and we can find out why it could not locate it.
Thanks to this, I can really enjoy using Windows 8 without having to suffer reading from the news sites that I love . It’s been a wonderful experience having to read from it as how you could with a newspaper, although I see a lot more potential coming from this app. Really wonderful, thanks for this
I’d like to pitch in some feedback with my experience on using your app.
First of all, some feed articles are missing a part of the whole article when opened. Here are some of the feed links that i use this for.
Most of the Yahoo Articles that I have read are incomplete, which had me browse the original article link. Anyhow, not really a negative feedback, I thought it might just help you guys on improving the app .
One feature that I would really like to see is a Live Tile notifier (not just the scrolling title of the news from the feed). This could be in a means of having to show a number within the Live Tile that indicates if there are new news available to be read. Something that you would usually see around phones, a red small box that has a number on it representing a new entry. This shouldn’t count the unread articles as a new entry.
It’s like this, I see a number representing the amount of newly posted articles since I last pressed on the News Bento Live Tile to get a quick glance. It should act in between the visits to the News Bento app itself. Counter should reset once I opened the News Bento app (even if I didn’t read the new article posted).
And yes, it would also be great to see an option that let’s you hide/display “read” articles from the main browsing thingy .
Thank you for choosing News Bento and the good suggestions! We will consider them for our future releases.
One good news for the shortened news summary in the feeds – News Bento actually seamlessly integrates full article contents powered by Readability. In the article page, if you right click or swipe up to activate the app bar, you have the option to enable CleanView. After enabling it, we will remember your selection for this feed and bring you the full article in our magazine style.
Hi…I’ve actually got News Bento on three different Windows 8 devices (desktop, laptop and Surface RT). I’d like to see the feed-selection auto-replicated between the instances of News Bento via SkyDrive ‘configuration’ – and unread count. I think that would make News Bento even better! I love the design of the app.
Love News Bento on Windows 8!! Awesome newsreader. The only thing I miss is the possibility to see my added newsfeeds in a list, and the option to rename/change the added feeds. Maybe something for the next update?
But kudos for what is the best reader for W8!!!
Awesome looking app… would be superb if it sync’ed read/unread statuses with Google Reader. A lot of the time I’m bouncing between devices and it sucks to have to scroll through everything I’ve already read. Even without, still top notch.
Windows Phone 7.x app about be greatly appreciated, especially with some sort of syncing read and flagged articles with the Windows 8 application using Skydrive or Google Reader would be a perfect combination.
Great app! I wish you added an option to choose various types of fonts, I mean, the layout and design are so beautiful that this sort of things then become desirable, great job!. It will also be great to have an active live tile, all in all a great reader, this could be Windows 8 flipboard!
Thank you for the good words. The latest version of News Bento is published to The Windows Store now. Please upgrade the app from the store if you have not done so. It is now fully integrated with Google Reader and you can even pin your feeds and groups to the start page. You can also add new feeds via search, which is backed by Google Reader too.
Hope this new release meets your needs. We are still strengthening the experience with Google Reader integration. Please do let us know if you have any further feedback.
Tried to give feedback using the app’s feedback button, it opened Chrome with 4 tabs of nothing. That is one, the other is you need to add backspace key support to go “back” to the previous page.
Thank you for choosing News Bento. The latest version of News Bento is published now in the Windows Store. It should fix the issue that in certain scenarios the Feedback button does not generate email content correctly. Hope it will also fix your issue now.
We are still improving the keyboard experience of the app. In the next release, it will be easier to navigate through articles with keyboard. The backspace key is a good idea that we will definitely think about.
Please let us know if you have any other feedback. Thanks for your support.
This is great, great, great. Any plans to let me pay you for your hard work on this?
In the Google Reader integration the one thing I’d like to see is integration w/ Google Reader’s read/unread state. I’d like to just be able to glance through articles (not actually open each one) and having done so set these as read… and then not see them again in Bento.

This is, by far, the best news reader in terms of UI but the only thing that keeps me from using it constantly is the lack of Google Reader support. It will be great if you will intergrate it with Google Reader as well.
We are really glad that you like News Bento. Thank you for sending us your feedback. The good news is that the latest version of News Bento is now published in the Windows Store. It is now fully integrated with Google Reader and you can add new feeds via search, which is backed by Google Reader too.
Please update the app from the store if you haven’t done so. Since we are still strengthening the experience with Google Reader integration, please let us know if you have any further feedback.
I was hoping for a viable replacement for Flipboard on my WinRT tablet, and Bento is it. Thanks for a wonderful newsreader.

How do you create a new tab category on the home page? (exe: tech, business, etc)
Simply drag a news tile to the blank space to create a new group. Afterwards, you can change its name when you right click on it or swipe on it.
I would like to ask when you can fix that you have your titles over-run the images at the top of articles, in the article view? These are the set-in-half-transparent-white title overlays.

Thanks, and hoping this is an easy one for you.
Thank you for your feedback! We will consider it during our UX design.
Awesome app, thank you ! I would not have any problem to support development. Btw. some printing support would be nice too

We tried several RSS URLs listed on the Wired RSS feeds page (http://www.wired.com/about/rss_feeds/). They all worked pretty good. Just note that http://www.wired.com/about/rss_feeds/ actually links to a web page of RSS URLs. Hope it works for you.
If you are still facing issues, could you send us the RSS URL that you tried before?
Thanks for choosing News Bento!
